App Release 2026

What's new in the FabStation app

The new FabStation app gives you one continuous space for every function. Every toolkit you need is anchored around the model on your screen, so you move between tools without leaving the view of your work. It's one working place instead of a stack of separate features.

The bigger shift is control. The new Program Builder puts the platform in your hands: configure your own production stages, build the steps your shop actually follows, and apply the right toolkit to each part of your process. You make the app work to how you work, not the other way around.

Every function and feature of the app is built to perform at speed. Faster file compression allows complex models upload and run faster. You can now load the full model, no need to split uploading it.

This article covers what changed, feature by feature, and what you need to do before you start.

01 One connected workspace. Not a stack of tools

Before
  • The app was a set of separate tools, clicked into one at a time.
  • Measurements and marked parts didn’t carry between tools.
Now
  • Click a tool and its controls appear on the assembly, no need to switch working modes.
  • Measurements are placed on the model.
  • Mark and pin parts. Pinned items stay visible everywhere in the app.
  • Toolkits group by role, a welder toolkit, an inspector toolkit.
  • New Settings panel collects your options in one place.
Integrated toolkits in left and right panels
Toolkits sit in panels on the left and right of the model.

02 Task Mode

Now
  • Three ways to see your work: Assembly view, Project view, and new Task Mode.
  • Pick a task within a stage and the assembly comes up, with the task telling you what to do.
  • Mark parts as pass, attention, or fail from the list or on the model.
  • Flag an error, add a comment, and track it until it’s resolved.
  • Progress shows as you go, and your tools stay accessible between tasks.

03 QR setup

Before
  • QR setup lived in the part selector.
  • The QR code wasn’t in the assembly, which made the step hard to follow.
Now
  • The QR code is there from the first step.
  • Faster than before, with less to learn.
  • Buttons let you switch QR positions when you need to.
  • Scan the code and move straight into alignment.

04 Alignment

Before
  • Alignment ran as a combination of steps with no sense of completion.
  • No visual feedback, so the process was confusing at times.
  • It wasn’t clear why the mapping step mattered.
Now
  • Alignment runs in three steps — scan, map, align.
  • Feedback at each step: target found, stabilizing, done.
  • The mapping step tracks your magnets and scanning time.
  • Scan for too short a time and the app flags that it isn’t enough.
  • If alignment runs past five minutes, the app asks whether you need help.
Tip
In-app guides now walk through each step. If a scan or mapping result looks off, the app tells you why before you get to alignment.

05 Measure tools

Before
  • Measurement points were auto-generated at corners only.
  • Pipes and circular sections didn’t have enough points to measure properly.
  • Only one measurement was viewable at a time — you had to reselect to switch.
  • The reference part for running dimensions couldn’t be changed.
Now
  • Place points anywhere, on any model.
  • Visual guidance flags edges, corners, and non-straight lines.
  • Keep several measurements on the same model at once.
  • Set angle type and precision level to match your drawings.
  • Change the reference part on running dimensions.

06 Camber available in the Measure toolkit

Before
A camber assembly could only be aligned or inspected. The measure tools were off limits.
Now
Camber works with the measure tools like any other tool in the kit. Enter break points and a camber value, and view the camber on the beam.

07 In-app guidance

Before
Site controls weren’t clear enough about what they did.
Now
  • Guides and visual feedback run through alignment, mapping, and scanning.
  • Feedback confirms what the app is doing and whether the result is good enough.
  • New users get up to speed with less hand-holding.

08 Upload bigger models without splitting

Before
  • Uploading big models crashed the app.
  • Some details had to be stripped out by hand.
  • Models were uploaded in batches based on your inspection process.
Now
  • The system reduces model size internally and optimizes it for AR.
  • Detail levels work like graphics settings in games from high through low.
  • Detail is reduced, not stripped. Shapes stay correct and curves get less smooth, but the geometry you need for inspection stays intact.
  • Upload the full model at once. No more segmented uploads.
Most useful if
You work with models from SolidWorks, Inventor, or anything outside structural steel.
How to get started
Updating the app is the only step required. Keep your paired devices on matching versions:
  • If you update the HoloLens, update the supporting device (iPad or phone) as well.
  • If you update the tablet, the HoloLens needs updating too.
Get it on Google Play Download on the App Store
