What is Production Control?

Production Control in FabStation helps fabrication teams organize, track, and manage the entire production workflow in one centralized system. Instead of relying on spreadsheets, paper tracking, or disconnected tools, Production Control allows shops to follow assemblies through every stage of fabrication directly within FabStation.

This creates better visibility across the shop floor, improves communication between teams, and helps ensure that work is completed correctly before assemblies move to the next stage.

How Production Control Works

Production Control organizes fabrication work into defined stages that represent the steps an assembly goes through during production. These stages typically include processes such as:

  • Material Preparation
  • Assemble

  • Weld

  • Surface Treatment

  • Final Stage

  • Shipping

Within each stage, teams can assign and complete specific tasks related to that step in the fabrication process. As work progresses, FabStation tracks which tasks are complete and which still require attention.

This allows supervisors, inspectors, and shop teams to quickly see:

  • What assemblies are currently in production

  • Which tasks are completed or pending

  • Any issues that need to be resolved before moving forward

  • How long each stage is being worked on and by who

By using Production Control, teams can maintain a structured and transparent workflow that ensures quality checks and production steps are not missed.

Tracking Issues and Quality Control

Production Control also helps track errors and quality issues before assemblies reach the final stage.

For example, teams can:

  • Mark parts as Failed during inspection

  • Submit Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)

  • Flag assemblies that require revision, rework, or scrap

If there are open issues, FabStation will display them as Blockers in the Final Stage. This prevents assemblies from being completed or shipped until all problems are resolved, helping maintain quality standards across the shop.

Customizations

Every fabrication shop operates slightly differently. To support this, FabStation offers customizations that allow the system to be adapted to specific production processes.

Customizations can include:

  • Adding custom production stages

  • Creating specialized inspection workflows

  • Building custom reporting or quality processes

  • Defining tasks specific to your fabrication operations

These customizations are available as add-ons, but many teams find that the standard workflow included in their subscription already covers most of their needs.

Getting Started

Most teams begin by using the standard Production Control features included in their current FabStation subscription. Once the workflow is established and the team is comfortable with the system, additional customizations can be explored to further optimize the production process.
